Day 16 - Philippians 3:10-11

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead. ~Phil 3:10-11

Christian King

Here it is… the five words that determine whether your life goal is acceptable to God or not: I want to know Christ.

If that is your life’s desire, then everything else will fall into place.
If it is not, then the best you can hope for is religious ritual and fruitless striving after an inner assurance you will never receive.

I want to know Christ!
Not just know about Christ, or wear his Name ("I'm a Christian") like its some political party affiliation, but to really know - understand and share - the nature and heart of Christ!

Paul knew that this was the only worthy life goal. He also knew that it would result in both a great cost and a great reward.
•The cost is to share in the suffering of the One who was misunderstood and rejected by this world  - He came unto His own, and His own did not receive Him. - John 1:11
•The reward is to know the power of Christ working in our lives, and even giving us victory over death in the final resurrection!

To know Christ, we have to be willing to accept the cost as well as the reward. As the old Sunday School chorus put it:
If you can't bear the cross
Then you can't wear the crown.

We can know Christ in this life!
But knowing Christ comes with suffering as well as power!
If you can’t bear the cross then you can’t wear the crown.

The cross and empty tomb are the two locations of the Christian life.
Like Christ, you have to go through the first to get to the second.
