Tribute to Harold Fozard

Harold Fozard and I graduated together from McKeesport High School in 1966.
I wrote this tribute in preparation for the
50th Reunion of McKeesport Class of 1966
which will be held in August, 2016.

A Tribute by Harold’s Friend, John

Harold was my best and life long friend. We met when Harold moved to Oxford Drive (behind Slaton’s Drugstore across from the McKeesport Vocational School). We were in 2nd grade. We were best friends from the first day we met. The picture below shows us in scouts together. Harold is on the right.

Harold graduated from Point Park College and begin teaching with the Pittsburgh School System, which he did until his retirement.

While I was Harold’s best “guy” friend, the love of his life was Sandy Bishop Fozard.
I had become a pastor, and had the privilege of performing their wedding on December 11, 1971.
They have two beautiful daughters, Jaime and Kelly.

While I moved from place to place as a pastor, Harold stayed in McKeesport, and McKeesport stayed in his heart. He loved McKeesport… its culture, its history, and its people. Harold and Sandy attended the 25th High School Reunion with my wife Pat and me.
I wish more than words can say that we could attend the 50th reunion together.

Harold was a man with a deep faith. He hated anything phoney or intellectually shallow. He found in Christ a real and meaningful Truth that enriched his life, and through him enriched the lives of many around him.
Harold shared faith and love with a humble, quiet, servant spirit. I can only wish to do it half as well.

Not long before his death, Harold said grace at a family picnic. I’m glad someone caught it on a cell phone!
This video was played to close Harold’s memorial service on May 25, 2010.

Rest in peace, my dear friend. I look forward to seeing you again.
